Plans

So, I’m not going to Moab this weekend. It’d be exciting, I haven’t ridden the White Rim yet this year, and meeting Jill and Geoff and seeing Dave (and others?) would be excellent. Other, more mundance duties call, and I will remain here.

Saturday I think I’ll be getting up horrendously early and doing a big loop up out of Oak Creek north of Sedona and back down via Barney Springs Canyon, which should provide some good cross training. It’s a good quality scarey trip; far enough from home to get me psyched, close enough to not burn out on long solo drives.

Sunday, the Whiskey-Antiwhiskey loop. Gotta keep up the training, and I’m banking on good climbing chops late in the morning to deliver for me at the KTR. I am also formerly commiting to doing the race completely onsight: no preriding at all. It’s a matter of convenience first, but also of style and adventure, to see how well I can keep the navigation edge after 10 hours of hard riding. Of course, there’s also the option of ruthlessly sucking Ed’s wheel, I think after the last month he’ll be able to ride the race blindfolded. Lamentabley, that presupposition is based on being able to hold his wheel.

Future plans must march on regardless, and a good one is shaping up here. October 6, White Rim in a day. Classic. October 7, the larger Hazard County, climb up to Geyser (on a bike!!) and take Moonlight Meadows all the way to Porc Rim. The new classic, I think, but the hard way. All are welcome, which is an exclusive invitation still. We’re a meritocracy.

  1. Be careful, I tend to make unplanned and non-KTR regulation swerves onto actual singletrack :-)Ed

  2. I think your time will still count if you make the course harder. In the dark, no less!Gotta ask Adam………

  3. Mike C. would say that going off course is going off course. Longer or not. I am hoping to not have to make any of those decisions. :)

  4. Ed could swerve onto singletrack, do an out and back, and resume racing from the same point he left the course and be within the rules right? Not that anyone would want to ADD mileage to this beast. :)

  5. I personally will feel no desire to make life any harder than necessary!I dunno about those guys with goatees though…

  6. Well bummer… But see you the 19th!
