Race Face

It seems like an eternity since the Rim Ride, and the next six weeks are very packed indeed. KTR, KMC, then the Wahsatch SC on the 23rd. If I can harness my cycling fitness and build running specific muscle, I’ll be in good stead. Without getting injured.

This afternoon was a good first step, my first trip in a while up and down 62 from the parking lot. It’s a great 4.5 mile climb, undulating and rocky, about 1.1k of cumulative climbing, with 400′ of descending mixed in. I’ve usually come in a round 45 minutes on the way up, but today I came in just under 40. Very encouraging. Descent time was the same as usual, a bit less than half an hour. Steep trail descending is fun stuff, and good for morale.

Next weekend is going to be a big todo, indeed. Speaking of which….

It’s been a tradition for centuries to cut one’s hair in preparation for battle. So, watch out!! I’m comin at ya!

I also got a new-to-me drive side crank, 94 bcd 175mm Sugino, my favorite.

Over the last year or so I’ve gotten two complete sets and a drive side for less than $40, including shipping. Only problem used to be the funny bolt behind the arm, which made most bashguards unusable. My Blackspire solved that.

They’ve got a nice low Q-factor, and all the used cranks have been in quite good shape. I think now I can stop stockpiling.

I also refilled on the wonderful thing that is Cytomax, and picked up some Izumi leg warmers to keep the KTR pack light. The LBS has to be good for something.

The New York Times has an interesting article up about female climbers, an odd audio slideshow/interview of sorts. Several of the shots (Steph Davis in the Merced, the first one of Lynn Hill) are very well done, but the overall visual message seems to take the athleticism as very secondary. I think athletic women are beautiful, but I’d like to take it in that order. Reminds me of the exchange Jill engendered a few months ago.

Good night.

  1. Like the hair cut. I follow the same ritual for the most part. Cut it before OP, Rim Ride and TI. Probably good until GLR now though :)Glad to hear the fitness is snowballing. You’re going to rock at KTR if you keep this up.

  2. Like the prison look!=)Can’t wait!

  3. I’m debating whether that picture looks more or less Serial-Killer then your old Iowa Driver’s License picture… which verged on mad Psychotic. There’s something mildly playful about this one- so I think the other one still wins.

  4. The RR does seem like ages ago. I am chomping at the bit up here for a bit fat epic.
