Best seat in the house

This would be it:

The lookout seat on the south end of Spruce Mountain. 7.7k and a stiff breeze was a welcome contrast in the last days of spring. Nice to know we always have a bit of the alpine a few miles from home.

Rolling hills, Prescott, and Granite Mountain. Part of the Prescott Monstercross route will top out this peak, then go around the far side of Granite.

My dinner is waiting just off the right side of the frame.

If you look closely, you’ll see that at present, the lookout is closed. They’ve got a pet rattlesnake that lives in the rocks at the base. In the summer they use a brush taped to a broomstick to paint it’s head yellow so that it stands out, and is less likely to be stepped on by visitors.

The RT25 continues to impress, in this case by carrying excessive water and 15 lbs of superfluous climbing gear easily. Impressive for a pack with 1.5″ webbing for a hipbelt.

Overall, a good evening spent.
