Evening

I’m full of ideas today, and none sadder than this: our country is being damaged in ways that may not be fully repaired in my lifetime.

I read Ed’s post this morning, then driving in heard this story on NPR. Beyond the obvious problems with the sitting president, the failure of the new Congress is what really sticks with me. No one in the country, regardless of political persuasion, wants half-hearted political measures concerning Iraq. They want action. Bold action.

The best politicians, and the best politics, role model that which we want to be. Which is why presidents like FDR (who lied about his health and died in office) and JFK (who was coerced by Congress and his brother into supporting civil rights legislation) look so much better in retrospect. I expect more from Pelosi and Reed.

On the complete opposite of the spectrum is this. I normally don’t read Fat Cyclist, but this is damn funny.
