Granite Mountain Circumnavigation

On foot. And damn am I tired. Complaints almost identical to last time, though a different, smarter, and slightly shorter route put me in under the four hour barrier, 3:53 to be exact.

Scott’s monster sez 2.2k and 18 miles, both likely quite a bit short due to my hand-drawn track. I’d say closer to 2.5k up and 20-21 miles. Or more.

I started from Williamson Valley and went counter-clockwise, and with less than an hour left leaving Granite lake, didn’t think it would happen under 4. Mint went much faster than expected, despite rocks and cramping calves, and I burned the last three miles at a good clip to bring it home.

And it hurt. I freaked out a few folks in the crowded lot pacing around like I had a knife in my back, making weird noises.

I was grinning anyway, because today went better and faster than last time, which puts me months ahead of the training curve. Exactly where I want to be.

  1. I was out for a run for exactly 3:53 today as well. weird.

  2. So I take it you finally made my monster your bitch, forcing it to give you climbing numbers? Nice.4 hours of running – now that’s nuts.Looks like a great loop. . . …on a bike.Wilderness?

  3. I’m starting to get the hang of it, though my learning curve can be embarrasingly long with some things (computers and derailleur indexing, for example). You can do a long, if slightly less interesting, loop avoiding the wilderness in two sections. Adds a fair bit of climbing (goes up from the beer checkpoint via the powerline trail), too. The challenge for that loop is to go sub-3, which I haven’t yet managed.
