Still on vacation, not feeling physically snappy, so the day’s been devoted to odds and ends; things left undone and ideas unexecuted.
First up: Bunyon bike rack revisions. We’re up to full four bike capacity, and a fifth could likely be snuck onto the end if necessary.

Note use of bike parts, specifically an old handlebar. I did break down an go to ACE to get a 5″ carriage bolt to bring a last piece together, so it wasn’t constructed entirely of stuff laying around.

To install the bar a drilled a 23mm hole a few inches deep, filled it with a generous amount of Barge Cement, and tamped in the bar.
I drilled the whole with this great re-find from my parents house, my dad’s old hand auger.

Awesomely functional and efficient, and quiet. I love hand tools, so much more aesthetically pleasing to work with. Though a circular saw sure is useful.
Next up: an added strap to keep my Sugoi overshoes on the toes while walking in snow, a project that’s been in limbo since I bought them for the WRIAD in winter debacle last year.

M’s fancy sewing machine makes jobs like this soo fast and easy, it even auto-cuts the thread when you’re done stitching. Note the sideways M making cookies.
Still to be completed: wing pockets (Wingnutesque) for my Patagonia Endurance pack. I want a little more space in the pack, and more extensive storage accessible while riding, and these should do both at once. Photos and gear geekery upon completion.
Unrelated question: I’m looking for a mail-in service that will scan slides and produce for me high-quality digital files for use hear and elsewhere. Eh?
Snow this evening, perhaps. Weekend activities to be determined by the weather gods.
Last, cruise over to the Times and read Brooks’ column from this morning. Distills all the talking heads nicely.
