Deprivation

Colonoscopy tomorrow. For those who don’t know, this will involve a lucky individual (emhmmm..) putting a very small camera up into my colon and making sure nothing funny is going on. My task yesterday, today, and tomorrow is to ensure an unobstructed view, ergo the following:

Food Eaten Today (1/30)

Breakfast
~20 oz coffee
~1.5 cups lime jello

Lunch
~6 oz coffee
tons of water

Which makes for about 100 calories thus far today. For dinner #1 and dinner #2 I have some veggie broth and tea to look forward to. More jello for dessert. 250 calories for the day, max, then NOTHING tomorrow morning. I’m taking the day off work, and sleeping in as much as possible before packing off to the doc at 1000. Im not exactly thrilled with the whole arrangement, but it’s remarkable how not hungry I’ve felt all day. We even had lasagna, garlic bread, and cherry cake (!) for lunch at work today.

It does leave a few unanswered questions:

-Will my hunger and thus ornery-ness get worse this evening? Or, how glad will M be that she has to work this evening?

-Should I try to go for a bit of a run or ride this afternoon, inspired by the wonderful sun, occasional snow, and lusty wind? It recalls MC’s deprivation training of recent note. Or, once I start the laxatives (1500), will I be able to get that far from the toilet for that long?

The blog’s been good in the last year for making light of medical problems (far less serious than car problems), so you my loyal readers can thank me for this perhaps unwanted piece of information.

Lastly, a reminder of several kinds of illness, past and upcoming:

Watch out!

  1. Sneaky guy you. The procedure tomorrow isn’t that traumatic. I had one once and woke up in the middle of it. It was like a really, really bad reality show up there on the TV…Be sure to warn them ahead of time your pulse may be lower than expected. Mine hit low 30s when I was under the gas and they almost pulled me back out of it until they looked at my chart and realized I was a cyclist.

  2. I’ve had one before, too. At least the magic cleansing juice has decreased in quantity, if not in vileness.Given my doc, I don’t think that’ll be a problem. ;)

  3. My site is rated a lowly “G”…not sure I should admit that in public. Are they recommending colonoscopies so early in life? My father had a close call a few years back so I guess it never hurts. Early detection can only help.

  4. Go for a nice hard ride to really clean out your system.Glad you got the car back

  5. Damn Phillip, didn’t know you had the blog. People, go take P’s Wilderness Survey (no bike q’s Ed!). Turns out the answer to my second question was: hell no, stay within 50 feet of a toilet!!

  6. Er, um, thanks for sharing…?Fasting one day a month is supposed to be really good for you.EdNote to self: another ‘as I’m getting older’ task to be added to the calendar this year. Groan.

  7. Yea how come you need one so young? I thought that was a fun procedure of later in life…

  8. My dad died of colon cancer when he was 41. Covering all my bases.I want a pizza.

  9. Here ya gohttp://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Supreme_pizza.jpgThat help?

  10. I have had videos down the mouth and up the butt…..Not looking forward to having it done again…..Still not as much fun as spinal taps =^)
