BCT ride

The Black Canyon Trail system is down between here and Phoenix; some brilliant new bench-cut, professionally layed out trail on the edge of the proper desert.

This northern bit was completed this year.

Profile, until my GPS batteries kicked the bucket. 25 miles total for the ride. Those climbs are all totally fantastic on a SS.

The AZ MTBR crew was out in force. 24 people in two distinct groups started. We managed to move along fairly well, despite a group running the spectrum of experience from Max to Tiffany (who’s been riding for less than six months).

Highly recommended.

The first river crossing.

Essence of Chad, 2.0.

Dave (not me) and his Vassago.

Bob cleaning the second river crossing. Geared drivetrains beware!

  1. How are the hands rigid?Still debating which bike when I get out there. Leaning towards SS.

  2. I think it’s a perfect trail for a rigid SS, lots of tight switchbacks and quick transitions where I prefer a rigid fork. The final descent will beat on you a little, though. It’s buff for AZ.
