Weekend in Flagstaff

Three day weekend; hardly enough time to say a temporary goodbye to the best town in Arizona. And what might be the best single riding area anywhere. That I’ve found; yet.

Day 1 log crossing on the new “Secret” trail. Prototypical Flag. Big rings are punished.

Day 2 we rode the first loop of the upcoming Crazy 88 race. 50 tough miles, an fantastic, varied, scenery.

Aspens and the tunnel on the waterline road. Closed to civilian motors, it’s cherry-stemed into the wilderness to provide the city water from springs.

Looking back, into the inner basin. Former volcano crater, a hot spot currently giving us Yellowstone.

Art shot.

Soon enough we got off the two-track and onto a motorcycle trail. Normally this would mean horrid, fall line climbs. But yesterday, with all the monsoon rain, traction lasted longer than leg power.

Is this Arizona?

Today we met up with Nathan, Troy, a very pregnant Dara, and their friend Anais (sp?). Dara being 7 months pregnant meant we could keep up with her. We climbed Your Moma (hehe, those crazy locals), and rode loads of other fantastic stuff.

Nathan getting it done.

Not many words, because words fail. About 100 miles for the weekend, loads of brilliant, tough singletrack, some quality folks, and damn good fun.

It shall be missed.

  1. The pics turned out great. It was borderline epic, unforgettable for sure; a great weekend to a year of riding together. Seems ironic that our last ride was also in the same place as our first. Here is to more epics in Montana….(chug chug chug my kilt lifter)

  2. here here. good ride, good times. montana just means another excuse for road trips. keep the shred alive.

  3. I love that climb up Waterline Road. If you time it right in the fall you hit the aspens as they are turning and the day up top becomes cool and crisp….descend back to town and it warm all over.
