Debate

McCain’s done.

He has nothing of substance left.  His campaign is in the hands of box three; unless something drastic and out of any candidates control happens, Obama will win.  And Kelly will owe me a pizza.
We are seeing the crucible at work.  Imagine the pressure on both men today.  The politicing makes most of us like them both less, and it is also a crucial insight into who they are.  McCain is a good man, a mediocre campaigner, and would be a poor president.  My view on that has hardened, and I think that not at all inaccurate.
The financial crises is McCains San Andreo power plant.
It should also be noted that Sarah Palin is more Bush than Bush.  Character attacks, style over substance, war on content, war on intelligence.  The scary thing remains that people buy it, eat it up.  Jacksonian America at its nudnick worst.
Will she try to take Lisa Murkowskis seat next?

  1. While McCain is not good, I’m left wanting more by Obama. He’s better than McCain but far from great. His changes aren’t big enough.I fear that he fears asking Americans for too much sacrifice because he knows they’re too GD lazy.

  2. “style over substance”That was Rush Limbaugh’s favorite term for old Slick Willy.Apparently it can win the White House four times over.

  3. worried what well happen to small biz if big O gets in…..Seems people do forget that we haven’t had an atack on us soil. I think that’s in no small part to Iraq….But hey just the .02 from the slacker wondering the desert :)

  4. Neither one impresses me.They both avoided directly answering questions and they are both pandering in the worst way; promising this, that and the other thing.A agree with Chris.Blech…Ed

  5. “I fear that he fears asking Americans for too much sacrifice because he knows they’re too GD lazy.”You think that’s wrong? You know we’d all attack like a pack of jackals if he asked too much of us (us being US).Love all the political/social commentary from the enduro crowd. And here I thought we were one dimensional.

  6. I don’t know if the republicans have a solitary claim on either of two of those Palin metrics, i.e. style over substance, and war on intelligence. Complaints about Obama have consistently highlighted his strong rhetoric and dismally small substance. Just look at his performance last night. How often did he actually get to the heart of the matter when questions were asked? A few times at most? McCain has also done a strong job at pointing out the deficits in Obama’s voting record in comparison to his campaign promises. He has a brilliant, admirable style, no doubt. Some of us fear his substance because it isn’t well known and he hasn’t done a good job communicating those details. The war on intellect is two sided. Democrats and liberals have a very long history feeding into the dichotomy that exists between “Intellectualism” and “Anti-Intellectualism.” Both sides pander to constituents in manners that ignore the many of us in the middle, who adhere to the belief that either side of that issue will fail alone and that both have limited applications in politics.Whatever the case the race isn’t over. Obama may be developing a lead but those battleground states are going to be heated arenas in the near future. Thirty plus days is a long time and many independents simply haven’t decided.

  7. DH – sadly you’re right. Probably no one would get into office for speaking the truth and painting a reality picture. It’s all promises and sunshine until they get into office, then if they really try and fix things people call them traitors and liars because the promises were empty.Universal health care = no new taxes? Increased gov’t regulation and oversight = lower taxes? The bailout = money in our pockets?I mean come on!!!But a leader should have the guts to tell it like it is. McCain used to. He’s gone out on a limb politically a few times and I liked that about him. Not anymore. One thing is for sure, they’re both nuts for wanting the job :-)Make that two things, politics suck!Ed

  8. It may be the last time we can vote for (or against) someone who surrendered to the North Vietnamese. I hadn’t heard so much double speak since he recanted the statements on the Hoa Lo tapes. With the McCain ticket’s foot firmly implanted in their mouth and the Obama campaign forging ahead, I now feel at Liberty to vote my conscience with Nader.., doggonit.

  9. Just recall folks, its a debate. No one likes the smartest kid in the class.

  10. I agree with ed. Those guys are nuts for wanting the job.I have to admit, it reminds me of that scene in “Titanic” where the captain salutes the air while water rushes into his cabin. I also agree that a debate is not the way to judge a candidate. Anyone who was a debater in high school knows it’s all about style over substance.I was afraid of Sarah even before she was a VP candidate. Her power hunger is obvious and you can tell she’s willing to do almost anything for her next big hit. If she manages to make it into the hot seat, she’ll make W. look humble (and, likely, wise). Scary times.

  11. i agree in part with just about everything being discussed here but i can’t figure out how you all have so much of a response to the debate. does this mean that you were actually able to stay awake after the first question and answers? it made sense for Obama to say nothing (what with a fairly sizeable lead he’s opened up in many of the key states) but i’m not quite sure what mccain was thinking not to say something more direct and honest than that which he already has said in speeches and in the first debate. for anyone who has followed this campaign even fairly close there was not one thing spoken by either candidate in that debate which had not already been said at some point in the past several weeks (and in most cases in the past few days). it’s sad. and it’s time for this election to be over so we can go back to realizing just how little of a difference it makes who our president is and that our individual lives have almost nothing to do with the ego maniacs who have taken over our nation’s mindset for over a year now. at least you all only have to deal with this reality the day after the election and not also the fact that Sarah Palin is still your governer.
