I have a love-hate relationship with Backpackinglight.  It has to be one of, if not the, smartest group of outdoor folks on the internet.  Some very informative information when you find it.  It is also has probably the largest talk:trip ratios of any place I bother to visit; in many ways I’d rather spend time amongst the inarticulate meatheads on TGR (who at least get out on an almost daily basis).  Too many people with too much money and too little time.

They do have a new homerun up right now.  Best to go take a look (just ignore Carol Crooker).
I fancy flying into Juneau, and walking and rafting to Cordova, then ferrying and hitching to Anchorage before flying out.

  1. The dreaded idea:trip ratio…I tend to be in the most exaggerated ratios these days…That said we will be in the Cordova area in the summer of 2010 before Ariel goes to grad school if you need a ressuply…we will be doing the Nizina to Copper to Cordova, planning about 3-4 weeks for the trip so we can explore the Wrangell St. Elias again…-

  2. That would be a sweet trip. I’m curious how you plan to get around the Lynn Canal. Open-water packraft? Or walk-around? Why not just start in Haines?(Not to say that walking from Juneau to Haines wouldn’t be awesome, but anyone I’ve ever heard of doing it went over the icefield.)I’m actually not sure how Erin and Hig made it around the fjords. Probably just to boats. Those kids are brave. Anyhow, always fun to dream.

  3. no kidding (the talk:trip Ratio on BPL)the guys in the myog forum are so over the freakin top on how to build a beer can stove. jeeze!re: packrafting, yeah Erin and Hig floated mostly everything they could to avoid the bushwacks in southeast.
