The end is near for MSW semester # 1; final pages on a case study essay this evening, edit the shit out of it over the next few days, and be done with it all. I’m not back up to full functioning on paper writing, but I’m getting there.
I did sneak in a ride this afternoon once the creative well had temporarily run dry. There was a bit of mud out there.
Once I got out to the Rattlesnake I climbed up out of rain into snow, descended back into the rain, climbed back to the snow, then froze my face on the final descent. Fun. It will be nice to have the singlespeed back in action soon. I’ll have less to clean, and it is already set up with Mountain Kings; the only thing the Dry X’s do poorly is mud.
It was my second ride back on a training schedule, which for Camp Lynda prep means lots of climbing intervals, and as much saddle time as the weather will allow. My legs really hurt right now, which means only one thing (besides me having ridden well): time to start shaving my legs again. Besides giving the legs a quick tune, I want to drop 5 lbs of school fat in the next month. Over the holidays, when I’m going to my parents house for almost a week in the middle. I like to set myself up for success (insert rollyeyes).
It also occurred to me yesterday that my Tikka is eight years old. I bought in late in the fall of 2000 in Colorado Springs, amazed at the battery life promise. I
always used to carry spares for my Petzl Micro, several sets on backpacking trips. How things change.

Gear of the decade? Perhaps. All I’ve done besides burn through AAA’s is get a new strap a few years ago. Will this thing ever die? I recall the claimed life of the LEDs being hundreds of thousands of hours. I’ll do what I can to find out.
I am so psyched for Camp Lynda! It’s like a race, but better, and three days long! M and I plan to make a week of it, do some skiing, see A&P, ride a bit more. Little Creek Thursday afternoon anyone?
