The end

Skiing in the Rattlesnake is coming into shape nicely.  This is on the Grant Creek divide, about 400 meters north of the powerlines, this morning.

I’m at a loss for anything to say, other than that it has been a very successful year.  I strengthened already good friendships, made wonderful new ones.  I rolled with a few punches on the racing side of my life, and rose to the occasion always.  Other than Seven Mile Rim kicking my ass on foot and on bike, I finished every big journey I started this year, and both of those DNFs are choices with which I’m content (still pissed about not having an 8mm wrench on the Rim Ride, but c’est la vie).  Teaching was very good this year, and I left my job smoothly, and exponentially better off than I found it.  I went to grad school, and did well (TAship for next year and all A’s).  I even managed a few bigger adventures this fall, as well as many quality day trips close to home.

What could be better?  The outlook for next year.
Energy feeding on itself and inertia of desire and accomplishment have been the most important themes this year.  Pushing myself well in one thing has always led to optimism in others.  It’s all about belief, belief that I can do something, and the ever growing confidence this brings, all without becoming a slave to goals.  I am very far from perfect, especially in the daily details.  It’s easy to do my gym workout today, as I did this afternoon, when I didn’t have to wake up early or rush to make it all happen.  The first half of this year will be a true test: can I maintain focus and balance, and by the end of June come out with a good semester of school and a strong KMC 200?

Time to find out.  See ya next year.
