Sunny day

In Western Montana.  A sunny week thus far, in fact.  First local off-pave ride of 2009.

Right around here the Rattlesnake road started getting too soft to ride consistently, combo of less foot traffic and more sun.  I hung out for a while enjoying the day, then turned around and slugged back through the mush and elk post-holes.

Nice to get out.
Not much else to say, beyond getting into the groove of things.  16 years of practicum/job, 12+ hours of teaching assistantship, 14 in class, and the many hours of reading, plus training aspirations and fun.  Leaves little room for shenanigans.

  1. I can not believe the local old school cross country skiers (the ones with pine tar on wooden boards) didn’t string you up and hang you for riding on their precious hallowed ski trails in the Snake. Once I tried to Skate Ski and was quickly told that I was only allowed to do classical ski up there. I haven’t been back since and usually stay away until June. There is a real bumpy but doable post hole ride in Pattee Canyon. Just ride up Crazy Canyon Road (the one used by hand gliders). Also if you ride to the top (Pattee Canyon Road) and start down deer creek you can shoot straight at the apex and ride up that way (deer creek drainage). A lot of dog walkers make it bike able. For me tongiht I am hitting sounth hills on pave until the light is gone. I am feeling spring in the aire.

  2. I passed quite a few going out and then back. I made a point to not ride in the tracks. Given all the deer and elk tracks and poo on the trail, it would’ve been a bit rich to criticize me. They are scary will all their pointy sticks.
