Some words from the hole

I’m still deep down in the ditch after all this week. Little energy or interest in doing much, big appetite, and what started over the weekend as a runny nose morphed into a sore throat and a nasty hacking cough that’s been keeping me up the past few nights. It’s been a long time, if ever, since I’ve been this run down.

I take it as a mark of my success, that I managed to peak for two different activities on subsequent weekends. I have no complaints about my prep for either, nor my recovery in the week between. And now I’m paying the price.
It is frustrating, I want to get started on the next big thing, the last big project of the summer, the Wonderland Trail. Some time in the last two weeks of August I’ll head over to Rainier to hike the 96 mile trail in 36 hours or less. I did most of the map research and gear listing this morning, but training will have to wait at least a little longer.
The heat hasn’t been helping my disposition, it was 99 when I headed up for the ride yesterday. Thankfully we have trees and high altitude to makes things bearable, but I’m already looking forward to the next seasons.
