I’ve been thinking about Glacier a lot lately.

I got deep into the luxury of summer in July, in a way I haven’t for a very long time. Almost like childhood it’s been, in the luxuriant and spacious days. But that is over.
School starts very soon. I ordered a book (the only one I may actually have to buy, thanks to the brilliance that is articles scanned onto Blackboard) yesterday, and orientation activities start next week. I’m working a lot this week (more than 20 hours, gasp!), struggling to bring order to our overstuffed house (and not doing very well at it), ticking off some sewing projects (three down, two to go), and contemplating a slightly more heightened than usual sense of urgency with reference to trips.
There are always too many to do for the time allotted, and my ability to accept that wanes and waxes. When I’m pressed in other respects, as I am now, I deal with this manifestation of the worlds finitude less well. It’s my way of dealing with Thanatos.
M and I hope to bring Kelly along on a last backpack Sunday thru Tuesday next. Hopefully we’ll go to Glacier, if we are able to get walk-ins for the sites we’ll need for the loop. It’s worth noting here that Glacier does a truly best-in-class job with their backcountry desk, to see evidence you need look no further than here. They also allow you to watch the obligatory safety videos online, rather than in the unfortunate video room which has become such an ugly fixture of backcountry offices.
It’s set to be in the mid-90s on Friday. Ugg. No use for such weather. As I don’t work Friday, I’m planning an escape. Location yet to be decided upon. Get out while you can!
