Race Across the Sky

Between meetings and endless paper writing, which has yet to wrapped up for the day, I snuck out and caught the Thursday Night Ride crew.  Rebecca Rusch is doing a grassroots, little mountain town (her words) tour of Race Across the Sky right now, and she brought the show to Missoula this evening.
A have a few thoughts on the film and the evening as a whole.

-I’ve missed the Thursday Night Crew.  I need to get out more.
-Beer and pizza are really good.
-Rebecca Rusch’s arms are freaking huge.
-With some exceptions, mountain biking is pretty boring to watch.  And I’m a fairly big bike nerd.
-The human drama of endurance racing is really interesting to watch.  The film did a pretty good job catching a cross section of the mid and back pack drama.
-Racing can be funny.  There’s a shot of a rather corpulent woman in a yellow t-shirt chasing Lance up the base of the powerline climb that was, really, really funny.
-Leadville is really pretty, but time lapse shots of clouds can be easily overdone.
-Some of the music in the film was really awful.

Overall it was a fun night, and a worthy use of time.  If my ten dollars hadn’t gone all to IMBA, I might feel somewhat differently.  The movie itself was good, but did not live up to the hype.  They had good material but put it together in a way that relied to often on a few tricks.
