Finally, some stuff from Yellowstone four days ago.
We unknowingly headed towards the Gneiss Creek bear management area, which is closed to human travel from March 10 to July something! Apparently in Yellowstone and in Glacier, the bears are already beginning to stir. Little snow equals early food. So we skied south along the park border, the cut of which can be plainly seen going off to infinity.
The day had started badly, with M hiding in the truck (from the cold) and me finding death crust in the Bacon Rind drainage, but ended very well indeed. Some things should not be skipped, and this is one.
In the realm of skiing adventures, Kevin “The Man, The Legend” Sawchuk begins his attempt to ski the John Muir Trail next week [edited]. Spot tracker, and google update page (for satphone texts). Watch and learn.
