Thanks Roman.  That is why skis exist.

Currently digesting my uber-pre race burrito: two eggs, avocado, potatoes, jalapenos.  Done studying the map, skinny tires on the bike, canoe at the checkpoint, etc, etc.  Course looks good, could be fairly straightforward, though I foresee at least a bit of wandering on homogenous forested hillsides looking for checkpoints, and a bit of highish road traversing a north facing slope might be rideable, or might be a good posthole.  At least one road that is part of the choice route only barely exists, too.  My orienteering trip last month was in the right spot.

Josh and the planning committee scored us all a free meal at Cafe Dolce in town, and last night we had a seven racer beer, pizza, and map takeover session.  The ability of alcohol to enhance UTM plotting was mitigated by having other minds with which to share.

My goal for the race is simple, to absolutely kill myself today.  As far as competitiveness, I’m not expecting much with my generally poor fitness and the presence of a six mile run first thing.  I’ll be playing catch up on the (fortunately extensive, and last) bike-orienteering leg.

Let us go then.
