Death by powerpoint

The New York Times makes the case well.  I’ve seen a lot of powerpoints in the last year.  Some were good, a lot were superfluous (which largely removes from contention the question of their quality).  So when my portfolio presentation comes up on Monday (finally), I’m going old school.  A single-sided handout and everyone sitting around a table.

I gave another presentation this past week on being white and teaching Native students history, for which I did make and use a visual element.  I’d like to think that one was worthwhile.

Generally, I’ve been keeping my head down, working, and doing some scheming for the trans-Yellowstone trip in a few weeks.  More on the later in the near future.

  1. Good to see you going old school. Part of my job is teaching presentation and business communications, and I'm big on avoiding death-by-ppt. I lead workshops on the topic. I've got great resources on the topic if you're interested. Good for you for resisting that garbage!!
