Two Gore-Tex Anoraks

Occasionally when packing and sorting through all your junk you find something neat.

On the left is my current shell, an Arc’teryx Alpha SL pullover.  Single layer Gore-tex paclite, waterproof zips, ‘roo pocket, pit zips.  Mens medium

On the right is the first Gore-tex garment I ever owned, a The North Face anorak I got for Christmas during fourth grade.  The various outer panels are all the same weight of taslan nylon, and the full liner is taffeta.  Note the snaps on the zipper flap, hood the rolls into the collar, and pass-through handwarmer pocket.  Mens XS.

The one is exactly two decades older than the other.  Some things have changed, some things have stayed the same.

  1. Ha, that's hilarious. Wish I had kept some of my earlier gear – fourth grade is going way back! All I've got left from that time are probably some old knives.

  2. I don't think any other clothing or gear from that era survives, but this one is special. Shortly after I got it, I decided that riding the bus was for suckaz, and rode my bike to school (or walked, when middle school was closer) every day until 11th grade (when we moved out into the country and I got a drivers lisence and an old van).Sometimes gear does let you do cool things you wouldn't have been able to otherwise.

  3. the colors were much more awesomer back then though ;)
