Bedrock & Paradox

I dream of a hard and brutal mysticism in which the naked self merges with a non-human world and yet somehow survives still intact, individual, separate. Paradox and bedrock.

They’re still out there, but not why I’m regretting leaving the camera at home. We got snow this morning! Snow line is hovering, for the moment, just above work at around 6k. A student from Missoula informed me that this is great MT spring weather.

  • Things that are wrong

In the Grand Canyon. M and I headed up spontaneously yesterday, figuring it’d be almost the last occasion it quite a while. There were some sad and silly thing to be seen in the height of tourist season. I hate horses. Mules are only marginally better. Someone needs their vasectomy reversal confiscated. Now they even…

  • Riding Today

Eric and his wife, Heather, were kind enough to invite us out to dinner last night. Then, I got invited on a ride this morning. Inspired by Fred, I decided to ride to the trailhead. It was excellent. Over 40 miles of riding before 1100. I wrote a bit more about it here. My Lenz…

  • More words

Deep in the American grain, particularly in the grain of white male working-class voters, that is the more trusted archetype. Whether Senator Clinton’s pugilism has elevated the current race for the nomination is debatable. But the strategy has certainly remade the political world for future female politicians, who may now cast off the assumption that…

  • Evening: more on topic

Firstly, the Lenz is not back together this evening. The fucking bike shop in Iowa sent it to High Gear rather than us, and I found out too late to do anything. Experiences like this swear me to order everything from The Path and be done with it all. So, I’ve been reading some interesting…

  • Somewhat off topic

The Bureau of Livestock and Mining, indeed. Here I am on my trusty steed, a retired Yosemite rental bike. Bullwinkle, Potter, Ammon, and I used to wage “Bike Wars,” coming at each other gladiator-style (head-on) on our respective rides. Basically, if you put a foot down, you scored a point; the goal was the lowest…

  • New trail!

What could be better! It’s not much, 4 miles and change, but nifty nonetheless. It also provides a good link for big singletrack rides. Excellent trailwork, with some cool scenery. I rode the Leviathan with the new old bars, ergons, and M’s wheel with s 20t Surly cog. Which for some reason skipped like nuts…

  • Brooks sums it up

Still, amid the storms of the presidency, their basic worldviews would shape their presidencies. Obama is instinctively a conversationalist and community-mobilizer. Clinton, as she says, will fight and fight. If elected, she’ll have the power to take the Hobbesian struggle she perceives, and turn it into remorseless reality. That is all. Interesting to see just…
