Bedrock & Paradox

I dream of a hard and brutal mysticism in which the naked self merges with a non-human world and yet somehow survives still intact, individual, separate. Paradox and bedrock.

M’s off at work and/or the gym, so you all are the unwitting victims. Sorry. One of the things I don’t like about my job is the general orneriness in inculcates in me at times. I spend the days dealing as patiently as I am able with __________, and thus I have a perhaps unreasonable…

  • Closure

Just as I did months ago with my applications, today I rode my bike to the post office, this time to send my tuition deposit. It is done. That was all the riding I did today too, just as yesterday’s exercise consisted of a beer and coffee run to Safeway and back. Legs felt good…

  • The weekend’s story

It seems almost besides the point to write the gritty details, but after discovering Jason’s blog this morning and grinning at memories of Spring Fling, I think it a task that must be done. Things began, as they often do, with me sneaking out of work at the earliest possible moment. Besides being a teacher,…

  • Gold!

Having fun last month, C2M. Another 4-5 miles and I’d be halfway done! Edit: This makes me thirsty. Good thing I have one more Black Butte in the fridge.

  • This weekend goes to 11

Saturday: 10 laps, 10th duo. 62.5 miles, 8500′ of climbing, all singletrack.I did laps 2,4,7,8 and 10. We had a helluva lota fun. Sunday: DFL, ~60 miles, 8700′ of climbing, mostly singletrack (with rocks). Being last of these five finishers is something I can live with. Aside from dying a bit on the last singletrack…

Superfluous GC pic for color. Ancient roads in Vermont! Interesting, especially when you compare the juridical precedent with that of the infamous RS 2477 in Utah. Getting ready for the weekend..

From yesterday’s ride. I finally seemed to’ve turned the corner on allergies yesterday. Now it’s just copious snot rather than cotton-stuffed sinuses. I’m hopeful it won’t be too much of a bummer this weekend. Speaking of which: lots of sleep is in order this evening. It’s going to be a big ‘un. In other news,…

  • Snotty gets a makeover

This is snotty the snot pack. (we have lots of packs, so some of them get names) Snotty is a Black Diamond Zippo pack, which I’ve owned since circa 2001. It’s a great daypack. Right size, solid construction, minimal extras, and a simple harness thats just perfect (for me). A put a big hole in…

This, and that. It’s gonna be interesting to see what Krupicka (v. Skaggs) can do at ZG in a few weeks.

  • Morning reading

A good article by Stanley Fish in the Times, as good a summary as any of an issue near and dear to my educationed heart. Some thoughts: -There are occasions, especially in Philosophy but in any field, when dense and complex writing is a result of a bad writer. There are also occasions when it…
