“This president has empowered Iran, he has empowered our enemies in Iraq, and he’s undermined our troops in the field. And we cannot support those policies.”
I’m glad I stayed home last night, grading papers and watching The News Hour. The aforementioned quotation was the turning point in one of the most interesting discussions I’ve seen on the show. Reading the text of the interview does not do it justice. Soltz and Morgan’s vitroil was pretty impressive.
My concern is that both sides of Congress are coming off as too political in regards to this. It seems to me that a large majority of citizens dispair over the current war, support the idea of supporting the troops, and are very concerned that our image in the world is suffering irreperable damage. Action is desired, politics are not. And by politics I mean petty concern for the big picture victory, for the party. Here, the forest is the tree.
So yeah, I got nothing. I did track down an excellent Mother’s Day present last night. There are few things more lothsome than a lame gift. My new rifle will also arrive next week, so can remember how to shoot and then go bag some rabbits. I am concerned that the .30-06 will blow the poor rabbit in half. I’ll have to aim for the head.
I hope to do enough grading that I’ll be able to go running this evening. Summer is looking at us over the hills, but hasn’t arrived yet.
Edit: This is fucking hilarious. Another students looking at me like I’m retarded moment. One of many.
