Going south

I’ve been remiss thus far in my time in Arizona; too much time going north for new variations on old things, not enough new terrain. Today the MTBR crew helped me fix that.

Black Canyon is a bit over halfway from Prescott to Phoenix proper. What’s great about the area, and what must be a requirement for any future places of residence, is the 3000 feet one looses during that 50 minute drive. It puts you firmly into the Sonoran, the land of spiky things.

I managed to mostly avoid the spiky, and had a helluva time riding great, recently built singletrack. The area is primarily lowish hills, badland terrain cut into many medium washes. The trail takes full advantage, and is snaky and up and down like no other trail I’ve seen in Arizona. Almost midwestern, except for the rocks and cactus.

I also realized that I’m still a bit pissed; lead legs and all. Plans for the weekend may need to be revised, especially given that I need to spend more time running than riding these days.

  1. It was one year ago today that I first hit that loop with the MTBR crew. It sticks in my memory as a great ride through decently varied terrain, glad you enjoyed it.
