Blah

A combo of crappy weather, lack of motivation, lack of fitness, and general malaise has made this quite the uneventful weekend.

One lame excuse, two self-fulfilling thoughts, and their cumulative result. I’m enjoying it insofar as the next months will hold very few unstructured weekends, but I’m finding it difficult to not become discouraged, with big things on the horizon.

Nothing left to do but chip away. One day.

I did go running yesterday.

5.7 miles in 90 minutes! Ouch. I did do quite a lot of cross country travel and soaking wet bushwhacking, but Topofusion isn’t exactly stroking the ego. Priority number one for the next month needs to be ramping up the speed on foot.

I did investigate a trail-in-progress above and to the west of Salida Gulch. Almost a mile of very nice trail cut in, a bit more nicely brushed out, and the rest thick brush with sun-faded flagging. It will be pretty nice when it’s finished.

That last bit of brush was the nail in the coffin tactical error tomorrow. It well and truly soaked me to the skin, especially with my light windshell. I was damn cold when I got back to the truck.

This morning: off to the gym.

Lastly, some levity from Eric.

  1. What sorta GPS gear did you get lately?

  2. Garmin eTrex Legend Cx. (aka, what Scott told me to get.)

  3. “I did do quite a lot of cross country travel and soaking wet bushwhacking, but Topofusion isn’t exactly stroking the ego.”Not a single runner has failed to be shambilized by the numbers in TF. It’s true that distance is always a little short, so pace is a little high, but I still don’t know what to think. (Secretly I know that runners are just wimps)But you may want to tweak some things if you want more accurate numbers. Stuff like cranking up tracklog recording, and experimenting with the “minimum speed to be considered moving.” The default setting is more for bike riding.

  4. “Minimum speed to be considered moving.” That’s funny.
