Snipe season

The donkey sent a note, inquiring about future esoteric-masochistic pursuits. Who, when; that sort of thing.

The snipe calls.

White stuff may well obligate a later start than has been current. Is late April excessively optimistic? Mid-May? In envision a return to the “normal” hunting route, beginning several hours before first light, and calzones afterwards.

Who’s in?

  1. Don’t SStop, get it, get it.

  2. Check your dates young man – it’d be nice if you didn’t run off hunting, while I’m swearing my way through Iowa Soya Fields.

  3. My failure at finding the elusive snipe left a hole in my soul for some time last year. I need to rectify this.

  4. Late April may be impassable up on La Sal Loop Rd. because, apparently it is not plowed until early May. Las year snowpack was not an issue, and we rode from Dewey to Moab at that time. I guess time will tell. And I suppose we ought to get out and scout it, you know, for research purposes.

  5. White stuff? What white stuff?I’ve heard that snipes aren’t as camouflaged when the leaves turn from green to yellow, red and orange.Ed

  6. Adam, as usual, is correct. I’m sure Ed is right too, but………

  7. but….Snipe hunts are tradition-bound.Ed

  8. Damn right. Like fox hunting, with no guns and different funny clothes.

  9. Never really encountered these snipes in my parts, at least not last year!! Do you need a ‘tag’ to hunt them? On a potentially related note, I’ve heard tell of a Cocoa-Pebbles Critical Mass ride in Moab. Not sure if the breakfast cereal, or chewables are behind this! It might jive with this snipe hunt. May be happening the closest Saturday to the full moon in May (5/17 perhaps). I believe this is meeting at main & center in Moab, UT with no set destination. Maybe Woody’s Tavern, maybe Loma, CO? Who knows…

  10. 1 block………… or 142 miles?Hm.

  11. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!this snipe hunt has been haunting my dreams (both conscious and sub-conscious)since last year, when the darkness stole my mojo. this needs to be addressed. seriously. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!jj

  12. wwill this hunt start east to west or same as last year.

  13. I’m there. I’d say same weekend as last year but no direction change….no need to have the fruita folk waiting up for finishers. And make it longer – brewery to brewery or something of the like. too obvious hanging out in p-lots.
