Grand Canyon it wasn’t

But running up Glassford Hill wasn’t a bad substitute. I can almost make Topofusion do what I want.

What is lost is the commanding position of that 6000′ hill. It’s a very extinct, eroded volcano. On a perfectly clear day like today, one could easily see the San Fran peaks, the western remains of the Mogollan Rim up by Seligman, the Mazatzals, and Prescott and PV in their entirety. Best view around.

It sucks not having a car that works. Everything I said before applies, but moreso. Hopefully it all gets taken care of tomorrow at the dealership.

M’s been a saint putting up with me. I hate being confined. It’s the loss of potential, rather than not being able to do anything in particular.

  1. Never been up there. Sounds like I should go.Is it bikable?Way to make lemonade out of lemons so to speak.

  2. Aaasahhh just go for a ride =)Even if its just around the naborhood. Looks like a cool hike.

  3. Eric, there’s a road that heads up from 69 to the south. One would have to find exactly where it starts, but it appears to be legal for public use, and would be quite a steep climb.I want to get better with lemons. To be specific: when last we checked early yesterday afternoon, we had the knock sensor and a misfire in one cylinder. A bad injector?

  4. Bad injector, bad plug or wire, or some problem in that cylinder such as (gulp) head gasket leak.Interesting in the findings. Hopefully benign.

  5. “I hate being confined. It’s the loss of potential, rather than not being able to do anything in particular.”Exactly. I feel much the same way.

  6. Head gasket leak. Crap.Carless lifestyle experiment beginning now, hopefully not lasting too long (I’ve got PLANS this weekend!). We also started looking at Rabbit’s, Fit’s, and Prius’ on el net.Errrrrr.

  7. Ouch. Time to call hospice. The white smoke was the tip off.Sometimes it isn’t fatal, but it is always expensive. Thousands in labor for a $100 part, and that assume that the leak hasn’t overheated that cylinder and damaged the head or block in some way. With time and patience, M might be able to pull the head and replace the part, but it is really a big job.Used Astro/safari vans are a dime a dozen. Cheap and hard to kill. haul tons of stuff as well. With the miles you drive I think you want a diesel.I pass a Passat, diesel Mercedes similar to your other one, and a nice Volvo 240 with lots of miles on my commute biking, let me know if you want any of the phone numbers. In a pinch, you could probably use my van over the weekend.

  8. Ack! Profile covering part of your track. Maybe if the dolt who wrote that software stopped riding so much, little things like that would be fixed by now.Next time just leave some area below the track that’ll get covered by the profile. It’s hard to imagine where you live in Prescott that isn’t close to trail. Aren’t they in all directions? Maybe it’s time to move…?No car for road trips (APC) is no bueno, though.
