Things that are wrong

In the Grand Canyon.

M and I headed up spontaneously yesterday, figuring it’d be almost the last occasion it quite a while.

There were some sad and silly thing to be seen in the height of tourist season.

I hate horses. Mules are only marginally better.

Someone needs their vasectomy reversal confiscated.

Now they even have cell service in the canyon. M’s first sin was forgetting to call her mom that morning. Her second, and most egregious, was even bringing the damn phone at all.

We’re 3 miles in and over 2k down at this point.
There are always, even in the wild west, stupid people that need protecting and cars that need dirtying.

It was a balmy spring day at the 3 mile rest house.

A pretty day, too.

I will miss Arizona. Missoula will give us a good baseline, on which to base future decisions. My top choices: Flagstaff or Durango.

But all things are subject to change.

  1. In my defense -First, I did not Forget to call my mother, she goes to Mass on Sunday mornings.Second, it was not only Mother’s Day – but also my Father’s birthday.Third, my cell phone is simply one of the multiple things I Always remove from my purse and put in my backpack when I do anything outdoors, the others include my knife and my headlamp… who’s the better boy scout now!!!

  2. Meredith wins on this one ;-)it WAS mothers day … and papa’s bday…… she wins.jj

  3. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

  4. That was a funny post. So much to laugh at if you open your eyes. Those kid leashes are the most demeaning thing I’ve ever seen.

  5. Don’t listen to him Meredith.I caught a bunch of crap for calling my mom while setting up for the Chainbreaker race this Sunday.I wonder if I could get internet access down there by hooking in my phone?

  6. I agree with enel. Those are great stupid tourist photos. I think one of these days I will set out for a photo safari around Juneau with that theme in mind. I already missed one today – I saw one guy walking around downtown holding two umbrellas over his head. A Kodak moment if there ever was one.

  7. Nice walk in the GC eh? Flag or Durango…I’ve lived in both and they both rock. Durango gets the edge for me tho – lots of rivers to be played on and it’s a lot smaller town. They are both crowded with stupid tourists tho.

  8. hey dave, email me. i want to touch base with you about this weekend and i just realized i don’t have your email. i’m at: grroes@yahoo.comflagstaff and durango: 2 of the 3 places i’ve been hoping to talk jill into moving one of these days if the alaska thing ever gets (c)old (santa fe is the 3rd).

  9. Ask crazy Ed downtown about Durango.Seems like Durango would have less drive time to the stuff you like to do.
