Packing

Chris and I have three days and a bit less than ninety miles in Yellowstone awaiting us.  Between writing papers and reading chapters (and cooking a trout for dinner) it was time to pack.

The Cold Cold World Ozone, moded, loaded, and ready to go.  Missing a bit of food, but that’s about the right size.

Last night I cut off the lid and added the extension skirt (red), then redid the top strap.  That last is still evolving.  The idea is for this pack to be able to have a bike frame strapped on easily and well, for the hiking portions on the Grand Confluence Circ. this spring, and other yet to be defined adventures.
The pack itself is dead simple, 1000D Cordura, a minimum of straps, and sleeve inside that holds a cut down Z-rest for suspension.  It’s survived a ton of canyon thrashing with only surface scuffs.  Not light, but utterly bomber.

Food.  Dark chocolate covered almonds were on sale at the yuppie food store this afternoon, to my delight.  Across the top we have: breakfast day 2 (oats, granola, instant oats, cinnamon, nutmeg), dinner 1 (instant garlic taters, dried refried beans, oregano, sage, pepper), dinner 2 (couscous, dried refried beans, dried veggies, one diced fresh chili).  Add some bagels, cheese, and some salami and we’ll be in business.  (The small nalgene is olive oil.)

  4. We’ll bring the bottle down next month. We don’t actually have a commercial/industrial machine, which means I can sew layers of webbing together if I go very slowly and deliberately. Neo and anything else has been a needle-breaker.

  5. Mmmmm, Stranahans. Caused me a wee bit ‘o wobbliness last Friday night while we camped :-)Have fun!Ed
