Kelly (fellow student) and I were discussing last night how important things like eating well and getting out for fun and exercise are, and how massively they improve ones efficiency with things like school. Monday has been my day to do something fun before anything else, and I had plenty of time to exercise if I wished. I decided to go investigate what the clouds looked like form up in the mountains.

Todays adventure began, however, at 0315, when a phone call had me dragging (literally) a very drunk M across the yard and up into the house (she did manage to crawl up the stairs on her own), and then waiting in the kitchen for an hour while she dry heaved in the bathroom. I went to bed once I was satisfied she wasn’t going to die.
Silly wifey.
Apparently skinny girl plus eating like a finch plus working plus chocolate martinis are a bad idea. I personally would never have guessed. She’s in bed right now, very glad she doesn’t have to work today, and trying to eat soup and bread to restore her humanity. The worse thing about it all? She broke a nail.
So I drove into the Bitterroot and hiked up St. Mary’s Peak, a softball with a trailhead at 7k rather than the usual 3.5. There was some snow up on the top (9.4k), and very cool rime. There’s actually a little trap door you can use to get inside the lookout. A good place for a ski camping trip, methinks.

Arrg! Drunk spouses and 30 mph snow! What is the world coming to?
I was going to take some cool studies in rime and rocks when the fucking lame rechargeables died. It would seem that 3/4 charge equals three pictures. Booo.
I sent of a check for the Devil’s 50 miler, as per yesterday. So know I have something around which to wrap a structure as far as training in the next 9 months. What I really want is to wrassle a team for the AMWC in June, but that is likely cost prohibitive, unless oil keeps plummeting. Hey, as long as I can get a student loan next year, the credit markets can just keep going to hell ;)
Reading over the NY Times coverage, it seems that there is at least one major piece of excellent news for the McCain/Palin camp. America is still the biggest financial force in the world, and today has of this given us ample evidence. It should reassure the old school, unilateralist, exceptionalist, backwards-looking nut cases out there. But I imagine that in the end, it will not.
