Listening to..

“Paris Walking II”, by Miles.

Worth a post all on it’s own.
This afternoon was the first spring skiing of the year.  Used red-silver wax (which didn’t at all work, I need to suck it up and buy some klister) and my new wall-to-wall BD Ascensions (which worked so well it was at first scary) to cruise the eastern end of the south face of the north ridge of Spring Gulch out in the Rattlesnake.  The warmth and sun had softened things up into very nice corn, and I had fun busting out three laps, dodging rocks on the upper bowls and threading the trees down low.  The learning process is the learning process, most turns still result in enough instability that I have to take a second (traverse) to get shit back together sos I can bust another one.  Fun and frustrating, but that’s now it goes.
So what the fuck is up with corn snow in January?!  I’m sorta ok with it at 4k, but c’mon.  We’re closer to the North Pole than the equator, let such a fact do us some good!
Worth noting, the main corridor trails up there are packed so well that they’d likely provide good enough riding to outrun the skiers and snowshoers who might try to kill you.  The Jan-Feb dog ban has also provided entertainment on my last two visits, as forelorn dogs and walkers-of-dogs stand at the end of the parking lot, contemplating law and the natural order of things.  This town has spoiled dogs with carbon footprints larger than mine.
