Be careful out there

This was sent out by the local avalanche advisory this morning. It’s worth going to the end of the video, when the slide they trigger with the cornice runs over their tracks from yesterday.

The ~week of really warm weather we’ve had seems to have been enough to loosen shit up, without actually starting into a spring snow cycle. I’ve been waiting all winter to tick a few big projects, and it looks like I will be waiting a good while longer. All around the state there are too many buried layers of facets and slabs that won’t cease to be a worry until the pack starts to heat up, melt, and homogenize. We’re currently working on a trend where not many trails have melted out, the low skiing is junk, and the high skiing is touchy. Alas.

Not that I have free time beyond 90 minute training rides, anyway. Back to work!

  1. Wow! That was a cool video.Nice new blog, dig it.

  2. Avalanches are really cool, if you are far away and safe. Snow in general is really cool. I have fun digging study pits just to play around with my shovel.

  3. I had a little adventure the other day.http://vimeo.com/9857258

  4. Fuck! Glad you are your partner are ok!! That's the story of the winter right there, little freakin' pockets of bad conditions that make fairly innocuous terrain sketchy. "Holy moly." You are well trained to've said only that ;)

  5. Haha. I was thinking other things. And probably would have said them had my buddy been carried.
