Get over it

That, at least, is what I need to do.  I’ve been scuttling around like a mouse in a field all year, trying to preemptively hide from threats imagined.  But some parts of grad school will go down in history as failures, some as successes.  Now, the time has come to work on new things.  Ergo:

The coextensive duality of hope and fear that’s been a haulmark of my 2010 may not resonate especially well for anyone else, but I’ve already gotten a lot out of making this, and for me at the very least the video reflects in the way I wanted it. This morning I’m drinking coffee and toasting the future.

As I have more fun with these, the editing process is unsurprisingly taking exponentially more time. Readers can expect a lot of content here in the next fortnight, as I’ve got a mental backlog of projects that, if they don’t get done soon, won’t for quite a long time once moving and the new job begin. A less affectively turgid project is in the works for tomorrow or later today.

Enjoy, and please feel free to share reflections, on this topic or ones tangential.

  1. I love it. Was that your thesis defense we see? Good times to come up here!

  2. That was the thesis defense (up in full on vimeo for the insomniatic). The defense went very well, the rest of the thesis was a boring abomination made in compromise with the programs demands. One of the more forgetable things about grad school.

  3. My favorite video to date from you. Awesome. Fancy words in yonder blog but I do get the video.

  4. Made me think. If I made one 22 years ago after my defense, and watched it now. The hopes and fears continued each year. Eaten alive by life many times, somehow recovered. Friends or loved ones eaten alive by life that did not recover. 22 years from now you can make the same kind of video, but about all 22 years instead of one year – it's a wide open palette right now my friend: fill it with greatness!

  5. Wonderful video, really tells the story of your year. If I didn't know you, I'd think I did after the video. As it is, I know you better now.Dissertation video! Standard practice or did you set that up?You have an intense awareness of your existence. Does it hurt your head, help better plan for the future or ??
