Official Bedrock and Paradox Presidential Endorsement

As of today I am throwing the metaphysical, spiritual, and (minute) financial weight and influence of my semi-public persona behind Barack Obama.

He is the best man for the job.

As I’ve delved further and further into my job as a teacher, watching the news, reading papers and magazines, I’ve been convinced that our government is full of good people. Robert Byrd, Barbara Boxer, Olympia Snow, John McCain; all men and women of principle and integrity. Of contradiction? Of course. Whitman explained that years ago, and if the media seduces us into believing otherwise of people making difficult choices, we have only our own moments of simplicity and ignorance to blame.

The problem is the lack of whillingness to compromise, to be flexible, to step outside of strict party divisions (Bush’s veto record makes me want to puke). I do not see Clinton or Giuliani as capable to doing this in any meaningful way.

I do think the message of hope is a relevant one, moreso than the counter argument of a deficit in experience. In many respects, given the state of our nation, a lack of experience may well be a good thing. In an increasingly international world, we have made the opposite of progress.

I want to change this.

  1. You could at least tell your wife these things first…

  2. P.S. You said – best MAN for the job… slip of the fingers… or not???

  3. Not a slip, and perfectly intended. The last few weeks have been the nail in the coffin on Clinton.I liked Mitt, BEFORE he started running for prez.

  4. But by saying he’s the best Man for the job – you’re leaving room that a woman could be better… you’re allowing for Hillary, my dear…and it’s inherently sexist, which usually isn’t You… but apparently is today.

  5. ouch! Brendan I do the same all the time – we find out about each others plans from my blog or message boards – Funny how that works.

  6. That’s the sign of a healthy marriage, right?! (I think Dr. Phil said so.)

  7. Obama has my vote, not that it means much. I live in a Red State with a capital R.To me, Mitt will always be the bumbling head of the Salt Lake Olympic Committee, the Mormon who dropped an F bomb in a very public way while directing traffic during the 2002 games. Go Mitt!

  8. Did you happen to catch this week’s This American Life? Pretty good story about Chicago’s Harold Washington, race & politics in America – if you didn’t KCRW.com is running a TAL marathon over Thanksgiving… but if it isn’t raining, I’ll be in the White Rim!
