As of today I am throwing the metaphysical, spiritual, and (minute) financial weight and influence of my semi-public persona behind Barack Obama.

He is the best man for the job.
As I’ve delved further and further into my job as a teacher, watching the news, reading papers and magazines, I’ve been convinced that our government is full of good people. Robert Byrd, Barbara Boxer, Olympia Snow, John McCain; all men and women of principle and integrity. Of contradiction? Of course. Whitman explained that years ago, and if the media seduces us into believing otherwise of people making difficult choices, we have only our own moments of simplicity and ignorance to blame.
The problem is the lack of whillingness to compromise, to be flexible, to step outside of strict party divisions (Bush’s veto record makes me want to puke). I do not see Clinton or Giuliani as capable to doing this in any meaningful way.
I do think the message of hope is a relevant one, moreso than the counter argument of a deficit in experience. In many respects, given the state of our nation, a lack of experience may well be a good thing. In an increasingly international world, we have made the opposite of progress.
I want to change this.
