Badass morning reading

Lots of talk about epic journeys in this small corner of the internet, on this page and others.

This one puts ’em in better perspective.

To be quite honest, this type of trip is still intimidating as hell. Serious commitment, serious respect due.

Moving along…

1957: The modern American female is one of the most discussed, written-about, sore subjects to come along in ages. She has been said to be domineering, frigid, neurotic, repressed, and unfeminine. She tries to do everything at once and doesn’t succeed in doing anything very well. Her problems are familiar to everyone, and, naturally, her most articulate critics are men.

Obama: We are fighting over something, to be sure. But it is more a fight over how we define ourselves and over long-term goals than over what is practically to be done on the ground.

  1. A quote from the 1957 piece – “reasonably intact on her wedding night”.

  2. Wow. The Obama article was fantastic.I need to re-register as an independent.”She has been told that….to get on in this risky and nerve-racking world she must keep what a disillusioned male friend of mine calls “the safety catch.”There must always be something held in reserve, a part of her that she will give to no one, not even her husband. The safety catch, then, can be a woman’s happiness or her doom. If my disillusioned friend complains about it, he had better realize that as long as he wants an educated woman, his chances of finding one who is also willing to be totally dominated by her husband, who can yield completely to him, are fairly slim.”True in many relationships, but dysfunctional none the less.To the woman he said, “I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing; with pain you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.” If you get a chance read the creation account from Gen 2:18 through Gen 3 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=genesis%202&version=31http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?book_id=1&chapter=3&version=31They are created in perfect unity, and the relationship crashes into dysfunction with Adam not abdicating his role as protector(he was right at her side when the serpent tempts her. Why does he not defend her?), and Eve usurping (and despising) the authority of Adam since he won’t be the man she needs. Some in christendom say that much of the relational issues between men and women come from similar repeated episodes of abdication and usurpation (sp?).
