Ouch

There’s some snow out there, especially at 7k. You can’t avoid north facing roads entierly.

Sooooo, Matt and Chad rolled in last night. We spent some quality time beer drinking and talking, soaking in a pre-spring evening. Got up early, got after it in the cold morning, had some superlative tacky dirt, and some nice road. Then disaster struck.

Matt slipped on a bit of ice, and broke his right pinkie. Fuck.

Let it be said that he’s a tough mofo, road quite a ways despite before turning around, insisted we continue, went to the ER, drove home. And all with an almost disconcerting optimisim. Mental strength.

Matt, you’re the man.

Chad and I continued on, had a fun ride. Yes, most of the ride was in fact on nice, sunny dirt. We just stopped to photograph the more absurd parts.

Ride was: 305, Walker road, Senator HW (north), Wolf Creek road, 89 (south), Whiskey course. A future addition of Granite Basin will make a nice 8 hour outing.

Photos by Chad.

Another lesson: a 24 hurts. I was beating Chad uphill all day, which really never happens. Dude, rest! My form is encouraging. I cleaned the death hill on 305, the switchback on 305, all of the Whiskey climb. Feels good.

Be careful out there. You’re all good people!

  1. Dave – You guys rock…thanks for the great weekend and sorry for the downer with my little finger. It wasn’t bad getting out, so thanks for the directions…I just had to go slow and thankfully the Prescott ER was fast – like less than an hour! (ohh…it’s gonna cost me though!)I definately do not recommend cartwheels on the little finger. That little fucker hurts when it’s broken btw.

  2. Damn ~ I am a delicate little flower, I am getting the bikes off the wall tomorrow, screw skiing!

  3. Good work. I had it in my mind that you would go down W Spruce as well to the far, far end W end of Granite basin and do all that climbing as well.Sorry Matt! Ice Sucks.Great photos. Gorgeous day to be out.

  4. Matt, a pleasure. Hope the trainer doesn’t get too old.Eric, that was/is the idea. It’ll have to wait until things dry out a bit more.
